“To see the twentieth-anniversary Jovem Guarda reunion welcome Tim Maia, Milton Nascimento and Ultraje a Rigor.”
Context
Twenty years separate the debut of Jovem Guarda from this 1985 reunion. Roberto Carlos wears a white suit and yellow shirt at Maracanãzinho, while Globo also celebrates two decades. The gathering brings two histories together: that of the movement that brought the singer to prominence and that of the television network that turns his special into an annual tradition.
Erasmo Carlos, Wanderléa and other companions from the 1960s join together for Jovens Tardes de Domingo. Tim Maia, Milton Nascimento and Ultraje a Rigor join Roberto for the first time at this gathering. Directed by Augusto César Vannucci, the special alternates stage performances with comedy sketches and the music video for A Atriz, starring Myrian Rios.
Aired on December 27, the program closes out the year without limiting itself to a tribute to the past. The 1985 LP finds room alongside the guests, while television connects the generations. The recording remains a variety special: the concert shares the screen with characters, conversations and short narratives.
