Context
On April 26, 1986, Sydney is the endpoint of a journey that began a year earlier in Split. The Brothers in Arms Tour arrives at the Sydney Entertainment Centre for its final performance. The farewell also goes out on television, with a live broadcast of the closing show.
On stage, Mark Knopfler shares guitars with Jack Sonni, while Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher handle keyboards. Ride Across the River opens a run of seventeen songs. Seven come from Brothers in Arms; Sultans of Swing and four tracks from Making Movies stitch together the link to the earlier albums.
Near the end, the band tries Waltzing Matilda before closing with Going Home. After the tour, Knopfler steps away from the group and focuses on his own projects and soundtracks. The television recording preserves that boundary: the end of a road, not Dire Straits' last concert.
- Waltzing Matilda opens an Australian interlude before the close with Going Home.
