Context
In June 1986, Tom Jobim arrives at the Montreal International Jazz Festival with Banda Nova. The performance takes place at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, in the Place des Arts. Alongside longtime partners, the composer brings together family members and musicians in a lineup that combines piano, acoustic guitar, flute, cello and choir.
Samba de uma Nota Só opens the program and returns at the end. Água de Beber, Chega de Saudade and Wave share the set with Two Kites and Borzeguim. Waters of March presents the English version of Águas de Março, while Garota de Ipanema brings the two languages together. Paulo Jobim and Danilo Caymmi are part of the band.
The June 27 recording remains documented in the archive of the Instituto Antonio Carlos Jobim and receives an audiovisual release. The film preserves Banda Nova's performance at that festival, with the internationally known repertoire sitting alongside compositions from other phases of the composer's career.
