Roberto Carlos — Festival de Viña del Mar 1989 — Primeira Noite
Recorded February 21, 1989
Anfiteatro de la Quinta Vergara · Viña del Mar ·
Chile
Setlist not available.
“To see Roberto Carlos return to Quinta Vergara for the festival's thirtieth edition, following his debut in 1975.”
Context
Fourteen years separate Roberto Carlos's debut in Viña del Mar from this reunion with Quinta Vergara. In February 1989, the festival reaches its thirtieth edition. The singer appears on two consecutive nights of the program; this first performance opens his run at the event on February 21.
Onstage, Roberto handles vocals, with Eduardo Lages leading the musical direction. Their partnership already spans a decade and supports the singer's choice to perform with an orchestra. The performance is part of a festival broadcast by Televisión Nacional de Chile, featuring acts from Brazil, Chile, and other countries.
The run includes a second night at the festival's closing on February 22. Then comes a 22-year gap before Roberto's next return to Quinta Vergara in 2011. The television recording preserves this meeting in between: neither the 1975 debut nor the return framed by retrospection.
