Tour albumBorn in the U.S.A.1984 · Born in the U.S.A. TourThe album names the tour that reaches Toronto less than two months after its release.“To see the third night in Toronto in the first month of the Born in the U.S.A. tour.”
Context
On July 26, 1984, Toronto hosts Springsteen's third and final night at the CNE Grandstand on that visit. Born in the U.S.A. had reached stores in June, and the tour is still in its first month. Nils Lofgren and Patti Scialfa are part of the E Street Band that takes this phase on the road.
On stage, Springsteen brings together Lofgren's guitars, Clarence Clemons' saxophone and the keyboards of Roy Bittan and Danny Federici. Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg complete the rhythm section, with Scialfa on vocals. The surviving professional footage follows the second set and the encores, rather than documenting the whole performance.
The road continues until October 1985, while the record widens Springsteen's commercial reach. The Toronto recording finds another destination: it circulates among collectors in unofficial DVD editions, with different treatments of picture and sound. It is a partial window onto the start of that tour, not an official release that closes the story of the night.
