Why watch

“To see Roberto Carlos singing in Spanish on Argentine television during his visit to Buenos Aires in 1988.”

Context

In 1988, Buenos Aires is on Roberto Carlos's circuit. The Brazilian press follows his Argentine run and notes the constant presence of his songs on local radio. This television performance takes place in that atmosphere of familiarity, far from a debut before an unfamiliar audience.

Onstage, Roberto sings in Spanish, connecting the performance with the Argentine audience through language as well. The recording preserves 46 minutes of this visit to Buenos Aires. His voice remains at the center of a career that already crosses borders, while Eduardo Lages oversees the musical direction of this period, which began a decade earlier.

In Brazil, the end of that year receives a different television portrait: the Globo special brings together Atlantic City, New York and the teatro Fênix in Rio de Janeiro. The Argentine performance belongs to a separate circuit. Its preservation keeps an international appearance accessible, distinct from the traditional Brazilian December program.
