Context
On August 14, 1985, Philadelphia hosts the first of two nights at Veterans Stadium. After passing through Australia, Japan and Europe, Springsteen returns to the United States for a stadium leg. Nils Lofgren and Patti Scialfa are part of the lineup that had debuted on the road the year before.
The heat becomes part of the conversation. Before Glory Days, Bruce sits on the edge of the stage and jokes about his age; before The River, he recalls the clashes with his father. Born in the U.S.A. opens the performance, but Johnny 99, Seeds and Atlantic City also find room among the hits.
After Philadelphia, the tour moves on to Giants Stadium and ends in October, in Los Angeles. The professional footage of this night circulates among collectors, apparently taken from the stadium's video feed, and ends up on a bootleg DVD. The recording preserves a complete stop on Springsteen's expansion into America's big stadiums.
- Before My Hometown, his talk links belonging to the city with responsibility toward those who need help.
