Context
In February 1975, Quinta Vergara welcomes Roberto Carlos to the Festival de Viña del Mar for the first time. Sandro and Julio Iglesias are also on that year's bill. The occasion brings to the Chilean stage a singer who already moves between Portuguese and Spanish without leaving Brazilian songs behind.
Roberto opens with Jesus Cristo in Portuguese and moves through hits such as Amada Amante and El Gato en la Oscuridad. Between songs, he talks about how moving it is to be there. Near the end, he introduces Ternura Antiga and dedicates a few words to Dolores Duran. The tribute brings the Chilean audience closer to a cherished figure in his songbook.
The debut begins a relationship that gains new chapters in 1989 and 2011, when Roberto returns to the festival. The 1975 edition is broadcast by Televisión Nacional de Chile. The recording preserves this first encounter with Quinta Vergara: an international stage where Brazilian song shares space with his Spanish-language repertoire.
- Ternura Antiga is introduced with a dedication to the memory of Dolores Duran.
