Context
In November 1984, U2 brings a still-recent change to German television. The Unforgettable Fire had reached stores in October, produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. At Dortmund's Westfalenhalle, the quartet takes part in Rock Pop in Concert during the tour's European leg.
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. move through the band's early phases. I Will Follow opens the TV cut, followed by Sunday Bloody Sunday. The Electric Co. works in Amazing Grace; MLK and Bad present the new album. October leads into New Year's Day, before Pride, Gloria and 40 close the run.
The tour heads to North America and pushes on through 1985, the year U2 also plays Live Aid. Dortmund remains a TV recording, with no official release of its own. The broadcast preserves ten songs but leaves three performances out: a snapshot of the transition, not a complete document of that night.
- The Electric Co. includes a snippet of Amazing Grace.
