Context
In January 1985, Jacarepaguá hosts a festival scale still new to Brazilian musicians. Gil arrives at the first edition of Rock in Rio with Raça Humana freshly released and a sound close to new wave. His two performances fall on different bills, between George Benson and Al Jarreau one day, Yes and Nina Hagen the other.
With a guitar and a new wave look, Gil fronts the band. Feliz por um Triz opens the selection, while Pessoa Nefasta reappears later as another mark of the recent album. In between, Expresso 2222, Andar com Fé, Palco and Realce connect this electric phase to different moments of his repertoire.
Still in 1985, Gil moves on with Dia Dorim Noite Neon and keeps up the dialogue with Brazilian rock. The January footage remains preserved in his archive and gets an edit that brings the two dates together. The recording keeps this passage: an MPB songwriter taking the festival's inaugural stage, guitar in hand.
- The edit brings together the two January 1985 performances.
