“To see Tina at the only stop outside the United Kingdom on this tour, before the release of Private Dancer.”
Context
In February 1984, the turnaround has already begun, but Private Dancer has yet to arrive. Let's Stay Together had put Tina Turner back on the British charts, and Help goes along with the new tour. On the 17th, the Maaspoort hosts the only show outside the United Kingdom on this run.
Tina opens with Cat People and goes through The Acid Queen before moving into Prince, Rod Stewart and the Beatles. Kenny Moore handles piano and vocals; James Ralston, guitar. Nutbush City Limits links past and present, while Let's Stay Together and Help put the recent singles next to Proud Mary.
After the tour, Tina heads to London and records the rest of Private Dancer, released in May. The Dutch night is preserved by the television broadcast and later circulates on unofficial releases such as Acid Queen. The recording holds this concrete moment: the new singles have arrived, but they still share space with the earlier repertoire.
- Cat People opens a run that goes through The Who, Prince, Rod Stewart and the Beatles.
