Context
On March 1, 1986, the Brothers in Arms Tour arrives at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland. The trip had begun in April of the previous year and still runs until the end of April. On the New Zealand stage, Dire Straits brings together seven musicians to carry this stadium leg.
Mark Knopfler shares guitars with Jack Sonni, while Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher handle keyboards. The set places Ride Across the River, Why Worry and The Man's Too Strong beside Sultans of Swing and Romeo and Juliet. So Far Away gets a calypso passage before the main version.
The tour ends in Sydney the following month, but Auckland remains absent from the identified official releases. The images shot for the video screens survive in unofficial circulation, without the encores and with the opening cut. Tunnel of Love closes the preserved material, not the entire performance that night.
- So Far Away includes a calypso passage before the main version.
