Why watch

“To see Roberto Carlos bring his Emoções shows to Portugal, sixteen years after his RTP debut.”

Context

Portugal already knows Roberto Carlos when his Emoções shows arrive in the country in 1982. The relationship dates back to 1966, when he sang on RTP and included Coimbra as a tribute to the Portuguese. Now, the performances in Lisbon and Portimão form part of a return visit documented in the public radio archive.

Onstage, the singer brings together themes that run through his recent work: the romance of Cama e Mesa, the defense of animals in As Baleias, and the family memories of Meu Querido, Meu Velho, Meu Amigo. Eduardo Lages leads the ensemble, and Aristeu Reis takes on guitar for the tribute Coimbra.

The connection with Portugal continues in the decades that follow. In 2019, the itinerary once again includes Lisbon and Gondomar, and his first appearance on Portuguese television remains a reference point in that history. The 1982 recording preserves an intermediate stage: Roberto is already returning with recent songs and a relationship built over the years.
