Context
Before the cameras roll at Teatro Fênix, Roberto Carlos turns down an audience padded with invited actors. It is December 1997, in Rio de Janeiro. The singer comes to the special after singing for John Paul II and releasing Canciones Que Amo, an album devoted to the Latin American repertoire.
On stage, the meeting spans generations and different circuits of Brazilian music. Angélica sings and dances Música Suave with Roberto. Gal Costa shares Sua Estupidez; Titãs perform Pra Dizer Adeus, and Só Pra Contrariar joins on Amigo. A video screen brings the songs close to the streets and to the telenovelas Zazá and Por Amor.
Globo airs the program on December 23, directed by Jorge Fernando. The memory of the performance for the pope also gets space, with Fathers Zezinho and Antônio Maria. In 2017, Viva revives the special: the meeting remains a TV portrait of the bridges between rock, pagode and romantic song.
- Gal Costa shares Sua Estupidez with Roberto; Angélica sings and dances Música Suave.
