Context
On May 18, 1997, Rammstein arrives at Megaland with a foot in each record. Herzeleid had already gone gold in Germany, and Engel had come out in April. Sehnsucht is still awaiting release. At Pinkpop, in Landgraaf, the six-piece opens its festival season with new material among the songs from the debut.
Till Lindemann sings in front of the guitars of Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers, with Oliver Riedel, Christoph Schneider and Flake Lorenz completing the lineup. Rammstein opens the run; Tier and Bestrafe mich come right after. Eight tracks from Herzeleid carry the show. At the close, Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen? has to be restarted when the band falls out of sync.
In the following months, Sehnsucht reaches stores and hits number one in Germany. The Pinkpop footage takes another path: for years, only three songs, one of them incomplete, circulate in the known broadcast. The full performance only becomes public in 2025. The archive preserves this passage between the debut and international expansion.
- Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen? closes the show with a stop and a restart.
