Context
Twenty-two years separate this entrance at the Quinta Vergara from Roberto Carlos's previous appearance at the festival. On February 21, 2011, he returns to open the 52nd edition, in front of 15,000 people. The night also launches Chilevisión's tenure running the event.
Dressed entirely in white, Roberto starts with Emociones and moves through his songbook in Spanish and Portuguese. Before Lady Laura, he talks about his mother, who died the year before. El día que me quieras brings in Carlos Gardel's repertoire; on Amigo, the Quinta Vergara sings along.
The awards interrupt the sequence: the two Antorchas and the Gaviota de Plata arrive. Then Roberto hands out white and red roses and closes with Un millón de amigos. The TV broadcast preserves this reunion with the Chilean audience, between a family tribute and the festival's rituals.
- Lady Laura gets a dedication to his mother, who died the year before.
