Why watch

“To see Moloko's Pinkpop debut, still with the first album and before the rise of Sing It Back.”

Context

On May 26, 1996, Moloko comes to Pinkpop for the first time. The destination is the Tent stage, in Landgraaf, on a Sunday that also features Leftfield and Fugees. Róisín Murphy and Mark Brydon are still presenting their first album, Do You Like My Tight Sweater?, released the year before.

On stage, the duo takes this studio world onto the festival circuit. Fun for Me opens the selection, followed by I Can't Help Myself and Where Is the What If the What Is in Why?. Dominoid and Party Weirdo keep the focus on the debut, before Day for Night and Killa Bunnies.

The future still holds the European rise of Sing It Back, driven by Boris Dlugosch's remix in 1999. Moloko returns to Pinkpop in 2003 and 2004; Murphy comes back alone in 2008. This first visit remains in the festival archive and is released in full thirty years later, preserving the phase before the big hits.
