Context
On June 1, 1998, the Pinkpop main stage hosts a debut under pressure. Nobody's Wife had turned Anouk into a hit the year before, but part of the crowd rejects her presence as too commercial. In Landgraaf, the move from the charts to the festival begins with concrete hostility.
Fluid Conduction opens the show and an egg hits her T-shirt. Anouk finishes the song, takes off the shirt and carries on in a red bra. Her voice holds up to the confrontation, while Nobody's Wife gets a warm response from the field. Sacrifice and Together Alone share space with Cry and In the Sand, which predate the second album.
The performance is part of the festival's TV coverage and remains preserved in the Dutch audiovisual archives. In 1999, Urban Solitude gives Cry and In the Sand a studio home. The recording holds that interval: the first album still dominates the stage, but the singer already presents songs that take her career beyond the initial success.
- Hit by an egg during the opener, Anouk takes off her T-shirt and keeps going.
