Context
On June 18, 1996, the State Kremlin Palace welcomes Bowie at a changing stage of the Outside World Tour. The tour had started in the United States the year before. Now, after stops in Japan and Saint Petersburg, he arrives in Moscow with a band pared down to five musicians.
Reeves Gabrels takes guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey plays bass, Mike Garson is on keyboards and Zack Alford on drums. Bowie opens with The Motel. The television selection places Strangers When We Meet and Hallo Spaceboy among songs from other decades, before reaching White Light/White Heat and Moonage Daydream.
The concert goes to Russian television in an edit of about fifty minutes. Numbers such as Outside, Telling Lies and My Death, part of the full show, are left out. The cut closes with All the Young Dudes and preserves a specific meeting: Bowie's recent repertoire inside the old Soviet ceremonial center.
