Tour albumLife1995 · Life World TourThe Life tour runs through 1995 and 1996; six songs from the record make the Old Trafford show.“To see Simply Red play at home in front of 60,000 people, in the Euro 96 celebration.”
Context
On June 29, 1996, the Old Trafford pitch holds 60,000 people for a European Championship celebration. Simply Red play at home, in Manchester, introduced by Alex Ferguson. The Life tour reaches the stadium after Fairground has taken the band to number one in Britain.
Mick Hucknall opens with Picture Book and spreads six songs from Life among the earlier hits. Never Never Love, So Beautiful and Hillside Avenue share space with Holding Back the Years and Stars. In the final stretch, Money's Too Tight (To Mention) comes before Something Got Me Started and the closing Fairground.
After that season, the Greatest Hits compilation gathers the group's first decade and adds Angel, recorded with the Fugees. The Old Trafford recording gets another life on its 25th anniversary, with a remaster and a special streaming screening. The football-linked party remains a portrait of the Life era.
- Fairground closes the night on the tour for the record that gave the band its first British number one.
