“To see Roberto take the stage at the arena newly built for the 2007 Pan American Games and welcome Gilberto Gil for the first time.”
Context
In December 2007, Arena Multiuso trades sports for popular song. Built for that year's Pan American Games, the arena in Jacarepaguá welcomes around nine thousand people for the taping of Roberto Carlos's Christmas special. The scale changes, but the entrance remains familiar: the orchestra sets the stage for Emoções.
With Eduardo Lages conducting, Roberto moves through memories of the Jovem Guarda and the romance of Outra Vez. Gilberto Gil joins the special for the first time. Camila Pitanga shares Como É Grande o Meu Amor por Você with the singer. Later, Roupa Nova takes over for Whisky a Go-Go and welcomes the Canarinhos de Petrópolis for A Paz.
The December 1 recording airs on television on Christmas night, after Duas Caras. Luz Divina accompanies the thanks and the distribution of red and white roses. Between the arena's sporting scale and this gesture of closeness, the program preserves the ritual that shapes Roberto's meeting with his audience.
