“To see Toquinho and MPB4 together over the two São Paulo nights that become the 2009 DVD.”
Context
In September 2008, two nights at Teatro FECAP bring together careers spanning more than four decades of Brazilian music. Toquinho and MPB4 take the São Paulo stage to record an acoustic performance together. The concept dispenses with a large band: the focus is on the voices, acoustic guitars, and songs.
MPB4 leads off with O Cio da Terra and moves through songwriters such as Noel Rosa, Tom Jobim, and Gonzaguinha. Toquinho takes over for his segment, dedicates a medley to Dorival Caymmi, and brings Bach and Paulinho Nogueira together on acoustic guitar. In the joint segment, Miltinho turns Ninguém me Ama into a playful vocal interlude within the children's repertoire.
The performance is released on DVD by Biscoito Fino in 2009, with a launch performance at Vivo Rio as well. The sequence preserves separate spaces for each act before bringing all five voices together. Roda-Viva closes the program and reconnects MPB4 with a song that has been part of its history since the original recording.
- Miltinho brings Ninguém me Ama into the children's medley with a duck impersonation.
