Context
In March 2008, Teatro FECAP hosts a collaboration that had already produced an album and toured Brazilian capitals. Mônica Salmaso joins Pau Brasil for a night dedicated to Chico Buarque's songwriting. The project grew out of an earlier connection: in 2004, she presented a show devoted to the composer at the Biblioteca Nacional.
Onstage, Mônica's voice meets piano, acoustic guitar, cavaquinho, bass, drums, saxophones, and flutes. A Volta do Malandro opens the journey, which passes through Construção, O Velho Francisco, and Basta Um Dia. Among the songs by Chico and his collaborators, Pulo do Gato makes room for an instrumental composition by Paulo Bellinati.
The March 15 performance gets a DVD release through Biscoito Fino, directed by Mario de Aratanha and produced by Rodolfo Stroeter. The release extends the work begun on the 2007 album. More than a collection of interpretations of one composer's work, the recording captures the meeting of a singer and an entire ensemble.
- Pulo do Gato brings an instrumental composition by Paulo Bellinati into the project centered on Chico Buarque.
