Tour albumStay2007 · Stay TourThe Royal Albert Hall residency presents nine songs from Stay alongside the earlier hits.“To see Simply Red turn the launch of Stay into a six-night sold-out residency at the Royal Albert Hall.”
Context
Six sold-out nights make the Royal Albert Hall Simply Red's fixed address in May 2007. The initial idea of a single concert grows with demand. Stay reaches the stage two months after its release, and Mick Hucknall puts the new songs at the center of the London run.
Hucknall sings in front of seven musicians, with Ian Kirkham as musical director and Sarah Brown on backing vocals. The World And You Tonight paves the way for nine tracks from Stay. Holding Back The Years appears midway through the performance; Stars, Sunrise and Fairground concentrate the hits in the final stretch.
The run takes lasting form on the DVD directed by David Mallet, released later in 2007. The roughly 101-minute concert comes with behind-the-scenes footage and performances in Amsterdam. The recording preserves the meeting of a new album and an already extensive catalog, without reducing that London stay to a retrospective.
- Nine songs from Stay share the stage with hits from different phases of the band.
