Simone & Zélia Duncan — Amigo É Casa
Recorded 2007
Auditório Ibirapuera · São Paulo ·
Brazil
“To see Simone and Zélia Duncan come together in the performance that marks Simone's debut on Biscoito Fino.”
Context
In October 2007, a friendship takes shape over two days of recording at Auditório Ibirapuera. Simone and Zélia Duncan take the stage after their meeting in the Tom Acústico project the previous year. Their friendship had begun in 2005, away from backstage, during a conversation at Simone's home.
Under Bia Paes Leme's musical direction, the singers share songs and make room for solo turns. Petúnia Resedá and Mar e Lua meet Grávida and Meu Ego. The exchange extends to the two songs named Alma: Zélia takes on the composition associated with Simone, while Simone sings the one known in her partner's voice.
The performance is released on CD and DVD in 2008 by Biscoito Fino, marking Simone's debut on the label. In June of that year, the stage show opens in Porto Alegre. The recording preserves a partnership that goes beyond combining hits: there are less obvious choices and room for each singer to explore the other's territory.
- The two versions of Alma switch singers: Zélia sings Simone's, and Simone takes on Zélia's.
