Context
In October 2002, Springsteen's response to September 11 reaches the Palau Sant Jordi. The Rising had put the E Street Band back at the center of a studio album, eighteen years after Born in the U.S.A. Barcelona welcomes this phase with Soozie Tyrell added to the lineup.
On stage, ten songs from the new album run through a sequence of 24 songs. Empty Sky and You're Missing sit alongside Badlands and The Promised Land. Bruce sits at the piano, alone, for Spirit in the Night and Incident on 57th Street. Dancing in the Dark closes the European broadcast, but not the performance.
After the broadcast cameras, the show still moves through the encores to Thunder Road. The tour continues into 2003, and the night reaches double DVD in November of that year. For the first time, an official release preserves a complete Springsteen concert: not a selection of moments, but the full course of the performance.
- Spirit in the Night makes its tour debut with Bruce alone at the piano.
