Album featured at the showNebraska1982Springsteen performs the ten songs of Nebraska in their original sequence, in his first full performance of the album.“To see Springsteen perform Nebraska in full for the first time, more than four decades later, in front of an empty theater.”
Context
There is no audience at the Count Basie Theatre on April 22, 2025. In Red Bank, Bruce Springsteen faces a gap of more than four decades: he had never performed Nebraska in full, in album order. The 1982 album never had a tour of its own either. Now its ten stories fill the empty stage.
Thom Zimny shoots in black and white, between hard light and shadow, with no narration or interviews. Springsteen sings and plays with spare backing from Larry Campbell and Charlie Giordano. Atlantic City follows the title track; State Trooper is left to Springsteen alone. The sequence keeps the album's path through to Reason to Believe, without turning the session into a career retrospective.
In October, the recording arrives on Blu-ray and audio as part of Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition, alongside the electric sessions and unreleased recordings from that period. The release coincides with the arrival in theaters of Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. While the fiction goes back to the making of the album, this performance puts its author before the same stories, forty years later.
- State Trooper leaves Springsteen alone, without Campbell and Giordano.
