Tour albumLaundry Service2001 · Tour of the MongooseThe Tour of the Mongoose promotes Shakira's first mostly English-language album, without abandoning her Spanish-language repertoire.“To see the Rotterdam night that turns Shakira's first world tour into a DVD.”
Context
On April 22, 2003, the Rotterdam stop takes on a role beyond the schedule: putting Shakira's first world tour on film. Laundry Service had widened her reach with songs in English. At the Ahoy, that expansion meets the Spanish-language repertoire that had already built her career.
Shakira opens the musical sequence with Ojos Así and moves through Si Te Vas and Ciega, Sordomuda before reaching The One. Back in Black places AC/DC among her own songs. Guitars, keyboards, violin and percussion share the stage; near the end, she introduces the musicians after Poem to a Horse.
The tour ends in May 2003, and the recording comes out on CD and DVD the following year. The video release keeps fifteen songs, with Tú before Poem to a Horse and Whenever, Wherever at the close. More than documenting a change of language, the release keeps both sides of this era together.
- Back in Black slips AC/DC in among Shakira's own songs.
