Context
January 2001 puts Cássia Eller in front of more than 190,000 people at the City of Rock. Her death, in December of that year, is still months away. Rock in Rio finds the singer with a set that crosses Brazilian music and international rock, without treating those references as separate territories within the same performance.
1º de Julho opens the show. E.C.T., O Segundo Sol and Malandragem sit alongside a medley of Come Together and Corpo de Lama. Nação Zumbi joins Quando a Maré Encher. At the end, Smells Like Teen Spirit brings Aurélio Kauffmann on guitar and Chicão on percussion, extending the encounters already spread across the night.
The concert gets an official CD and DVD release in 2006. The gap between recording and release changes its weight: what was a festival performance becomes part of Cássia's posthumous archive. The guests and the mix of repertoires preserve an artist in full activity, surrounded by musicians she shared her present with.
