Context
In September 1992, the invitation is to unplug the amplifiers, but Bruce Springsteen goes the opposite way. At Warner Hollywood Studios in Los Angeles, he arrives with the band from the Human Touch and Lucky Town tour. The E Street Band has been dissolved; Roy Bittan remains as the link to that lineup.
Springsteen opens alone on acoustic guitar with Red Headed Woman and then calls the band to play with electric instruments. Better Days sets the change of format. The recent releases share space with Atlantic City and Thunder Road, while Patti Scialfa comes in on Human Touch. Guitars, keyboards and a group of singers fill the stage.
The performance airs on MTV in November and gets a VHS and LaserDisc release in December 1992. The live album follows the next April, first in Europe, to accompany the tour. In 2004, the DVD widens the film's circulation. What remains documented is a phase in which Springsteen tries out other company without abandoning his own songs.
- Patti Scialfa joins the band on Human Touch.
