“To see Springsteen close Hard Rock Calling 2009, on the last tour with Clarence Clemons.”
Context
The day before, Springsteen had played Glastonbury. On June 28, 2009, he arrives at Hyde Park to close Hard Rock Calling with the E Street Band. The trip is part of the Working on a Dream Tour, the last tour with Clarence Clemons, who died in 2011.
London Calling opens the night as a tribute to The Clash. Outlaw Pete and Working on a Dream represent the recent album, but the signs also steer the set. Bruce takes requests like Trapped and Racing in the Street and shares No Surrender with Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem.
The encore passes through Hard Times Come Again No More and Jungleland before reaching Dancing in the Dark. In June 2010, the performance gets a DVD and Blu-ray release through Columbia. The River, from Glastonbury, and Wrecking Ball, from Giants Stadium, extend the release beyond that London night.
- Brian Fallon shares No Surrender with Springsteen.
- Requests on signs bring Racing in the Street and Jungleland into the set.
