Context
On June 4, 2001, Manic Street Preachers take Pinkpop's south stage, in Landgraaf, in mid-afternoon. A few months earlier, they played in Cuba and presented songs from Know Your Enemy. Now they take the sixth album onto the European festival circuit, between stops in Germany and Scandinavia.
Found That Soul opens the show, and Motorcycle Emptiness soon brings the new phase close to the early years. James Dean Bradfield handles vocals and guitar, with Nicky Wire on bass, Sean Moore on drums and Nick Nasmyth on keyboards. Ocean Spray, So Why So Sad and Let Robeson Sing complete the presence of the recent record.
The final stretch brings together A Design for Life, You Love Us and If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next. After Pinkpop, the schedule moves on to festivals in Sweden and Finland. Preserved in the festival's audiovisual archive, the performance keeps the newly released material side by side with the songs that drove the band's rise.
