Context
On the site where Reunion Arena once stood, rain accompanies Bruce Springsteen's return to full-length shows in the United States, after an absence since 2012. On April 6, 2014, Dallas hosts the free closing night of the March Madness Music Festival, tied to the college basketball finals.
Springsteen walks on with a ball, contests a tip-off with Nils Lofgren and opens with Van Halen's Jump. Tom Morello takes the front of the guitars, while Patti Scialfa returns to the lineup. Hungry Heart sends Bruce surfing over the crowd; six songs from Born in the U.S.A. carry through the wet night.
After the party of Shout, the farewell shrinks in scale: Bruce stays with Patti for an acoustic Thunder Road. The tour moves on to Cincinnati and ends in May. Streamed online, the performance preserves the contrast between a stage expanded by horns and choir and the closeness of two voices at the end.
- Jump opens the night with Tom Morello up front on guitar.
- Thunder Road closes the performance with Bruce and Patti Scialfa.
