“To see the European debut of Springsteen and the E Street Band, less than three months after Born to Run.”
Context
On November 18, 1975, London welcomes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for the first time on a European stage. Born to Run had reached stores less than three months earlier and changed the scale of his career. At the Hammersmith Odeon, expectation follows a seven-piece band.
Thunder Road opens with piano and harmonica, without the full band. Then the stage brings together the guitars of Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt, the keyboards of Roy Bittan and Danny Federici and the saxophone of Clarence Clemons. Kitty's Back takes in Moondance; Rosalita crosses Come a Little Bit Closer with Theme from Shaft.
In the encore, For You leaves Springsteen alone at the piano before the close with Quarter to Three. Thirty years later, the footage gets a DVD release in the Born to Run anniversary edition. In February 2006, the audio comes out as a double album. The European debut is preserved in full, not just in fragments.
- For You puts Springsteen alone at the piano in the encore.
