Context
In November 2006, Dublin hosts the final leg of an experiment far from the E Street Band. Springsteen arrives at the Point Theatre with the Sessions Band, formed around songs popularized by Pete Seeger. Three nights, from the 17th to the 19th, provide the raw material for the film.
On stage, eighteen musicians bring together fiddles, banjo, horns and voices. The night is not limited to the traditional songbook: Atlantic City and Open All Night also pass through this instrumentation. The New Orleans idiom gives the songs another scale, while American Land meets an audience especially receptive to its reference to the Irish.
The tour's farewell takes its final form in June 2007, with the release of Live in Dublin on audio and video. The film selects performances from the three nights rather than reproducing an entire concert. The edit preserves a specific lineup and its meeting of collective tradition and personal songwriting.
