Latest album at the timeAstra1985Astra is Asia's most recent studio album at the time of the recording.“To see Asia in its 1990 comeback, with three original members and Pat Thrall on guitar.”
Context
In 1990, Asia brings three members of its original lineup back together. John Wetton and Carl Palmer had already returned to the stage the year before, but without Geoff Downes. The keyboardist's return once again brings together the musicians who built the first albums, still without Steve Howe.
Pat Thrall takes the guitar in this stage. Wetton handles vocals and bass, Downes takes the keyboards and Palmer drives drums and percussion. It is the road lineup of a period in which the group recovers its collective identity, after failed attempts at reorganization and changes in membership.
The comeback also reaches the catalog with Then & Now, a 1990 compilation combining earlier recordings and four new tracks. The title sums up the contrast of this phase: Asia keeps its link to its first hits while looking for room to carry on, without fully reassembling the original quartet.
