Context
In June 1991, the Fox Theatre in St. Louis hosts Dan Fogelberg between two chapters: The Wild Places is already in stores, and his first live album is still to come. The June 25 show provides the material for Greetings from the West, on record and on film.
On stage, Fogelberg takes vocals, electric and acoustic guitars and keyboards, surrounded by five musicians and guest Tim Weisberg on flute. Leader of the Band and Same Old Lang Syne share space with Road Beneath My Wheels and The Power of Gold. The instrumentation goes beyond the acoustic format associated with the singer.
Later that year, the performance gets a commercial video release and accompanies the double album of the same name. The DVD edition extends the film's circulation. In 2000, Fogelberg recalls that Sony financed the production and stresses its high cost: the recording remains a concentrated investment in this phase.
- Tim Weisberg joins on flute, alongside the five-piece band.
