“To see McCartney's Brazilian debut at the Maracanã, delayed by rain, on his first tour since 1979.”
Context
Rain changes the date of Paul McCartney's Brazilian debut. Scheduled for April 19, 1990, the first meeting at the Maracanã moves to the following day. The trip is part of his first tour since 1979: a return to the road that brings his recent songs close to a past now embraced with more room for the Beatles.
On stage, Figure of Eight opens the concert and puts Flowers in the Dirt at the front of the performance. Linda McCartney, Hamish Stuart, Robbie McIntosh, Paul Wickens and Chris Whitten back Paul. Jet and Band on the Run bring back Wings; Put It There gets a snippet of Hello, Goodbye, and the close brings together Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End.
The Rio stay continues on April 21, the night that sets the tour's attendance record. The tour moves on to other stages and leaves the album Tripping the Live Fantastic and the film Get Back as documents of the journey. This first Rio night preserves another snapshot: the arrival, after the rain, before the record.
- Put It There works in Hello, Goodbye at the end.
