“To follow the News of the World tour through the in-house video feed of an indoor arena in Houston.”
Context
In December 1977, Queen tours the United States with News of the World. Houston hosts the band at the Summit, where the in-house cameras feed the arena's screens. That system leaves an extensive record of the tour, different from the additional footage shot by Bob Harris's crew.
We Will Rock You appears at two speeds in the opening. My Melancholy Blues and Get Down, Make Love share space with blocks of earlier songs. On Liar, Brian May breaks a string and Roger Taylor holds the passage until the guitar change. The performance combines piano, medleys and long instrumental stretches.
The in-house video circulates among collectors decades later, in versions of varying quality. Part of Bob Harris's footage resurfaces in documentaries, including the News of the World anniversary project. The concert remains a document of the 1977 tour, but the complete archive follows its own story of copies and preservation.
