Context
In February 1974, the Carpenters cross Europe and find in Amsterdam a stage shared with other international names. The Grand Gala du Disque takes over the RAI on February 15. Karen and Richard arrive with Now & Then still recent and a run of hits already established.
The performance opens with Jambalaya and moves through Close to You and Top of the World. Yesterday Once More sets up the transition to a medley that strings together Little Honda, The End of the World, Runaway, Da Doo Ron Ron and Johnny B. Goode. Pop's past gets room alongside the duo's songs.
The schedule continues the next day with another performance at the RAI, now with a longer set. The gala appearance remains a TV record of the European trip, preserved in the broadcaster's archive. Rebroadcast in other countries, the night carries this meeting between their own hits and musical memory beyond the Amsterdam hall.
- Yesterday Once More leads into the medley that ends with Johnny B. Goode.
