Context
In February 1974, the Carpenters arrive for their British run with a collection of hits and new gold records to collect. The stop at the Talk of the Town in London takes on another role: turning the road show into a television program for the BBC.
Karen and Richard connect two eras of pop. The program brings Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays and Goodbye to Love together, moves through Mr. Guder and makes room for Yesterday Once More. A long medley revives Little Honda, Johnny Angel and Johnny B. Goode, extending the conversation with the past proposed by Now & Then.
The February 24 recording reaches BBC2 on March 3, in a forty-five-minute slot. Months later, the Japanese run also yields a live album. The London recording remains a TV document of this international circulation, when the studio hits carry a long stage routine.
