“To catch Queen on the two Rainbow nights that close a year of two albums and British expansion.”
Context
In 1974, Queen releases Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack and gains ground with Seven Seas of Rhye and Killer Queen. The return to the Rainbow, in November, comes after that acceleration. Two sold-out nights in London are combined in an edit that follows the band before its expansion to stadiums.
Now I’m Here opens the live set after Procession. Ogre Battle, Father to Son and White Queen keep the weight of the first albums. The Sheer Heart Attack tracks come in blocks, while Son and Daughter makes room for Brian May's guitar and Keep Yourself Alive for the drums.
The material from the two nights goes through a theatrical screening and a shortened VHS edition, released in 1992. The 2014 restoration brings a longer version back to the public. The film combines the November 19 and 20 performances: its value lies in this composite portrait of a year of transformation, not in a single date.
