“To see the Carpenters at BRT radio's 50th-anniversary gala, during their 1974 European trip.”
Context
On February 13, 1974, a celebration of Belgian broadcasting meets American pop at the Cultureel Centrum in Hasselt. The Carpenters arrive after a year that brought Now & Then and the compilation The Singles: 1969–1973. The performance is part of a gala for BRT radio's 50th anniversary, also prepared for television.
The cut opens with Ticket to Ride and makes room for an interview before returning to the songs. Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays and Goodbye to Love form a single medley. Top of the World comes next; Mr. Guder, Daddy's Home and Sometimes extend the set beyond the run of big singles.
The European schedule moves on to the Netherlands in the following days. In Hasselt, what remains is a selection from the night, not the full concert: songs and conversation share a little over half an hour. Yesterday Once More survives only as audio in this edit, while We've Only Just Begun accompanies the closing words.
- Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays and Goodbye to Love meet in a single medley.
