Context
In April 1978, Cheap Trick find a reception in Japan that their first albums had not yet produced in the United States. It is the band's first Japanese tour. On the 28th, the quartet takes the stage at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, before turning this stop into their big commercial turning point.
Robin Zander takes vocals, Rick Nielsen guitar, Tom Petersson bass and Bun E. Carlos drums. Hello There opens the program. The set brings Downed and Southern Girls alongside Surrender and Auf Wiedersehen, while covers of Terry Reid, The Move and Fats Domino widen the night beyond their own songs.
The live album opens the way to international success in 1979. The footage, originally aired on Japanese television, gets a commercial DVD release in the 30th anniversary edition in 2008. Come On, Come On is included as a bonus; Voices and If You Want My Love show the return to the same stage, three decades later.
- The bonus tracks bring the 1978 show alongside the return to the Budokan thirty years later.
