Context
In December 1980, a three-day festival in Roosendaal faces cancellations and financial trouble. Roy Orbison comes in as a replacement for Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Haley. On Saturday, December 13, about 2,500 people fill De Leysdream, far above the turnout of the other two days.
Orbison opens with Only the Lonely and Crying, passes through In Dreams and brings the ballads close to the rock and roll of Mean Woman Blues and Ooby Dooby. Hound Dog Man brings Laminar Flow to the stage. Running Scared and Oh, Pretty Woman get reprises, preserved in the recording's sequence.
After the encore, Orbison leaves the venue quickly in a taxi. The following year, the duet That Lovin' You Feelin' Again, with Emmylou Harris, earns him his first Grammy. The Roosendaal footage holds on to this interval: the 1960s hits still sustain life on the road, before the commercial comeback at the end of the decade.
- Running Scared and Oh, Pretty Woman appear with reprises.
