“To see Cyndi at the turn of 1983, when her solo debut was just starting its run on MTV.”
Context
As 1983 turns into 1984, Cyndi Lauper appears on MTV's New Year's special in New York. She’s So Unusual is already introducing its first songs to the public. The recording finds the singer at the start of her solo career, on a TV program built around the New Year's celebration.
She Bop opens the identified block. When You Were Mine and Money Changes Everything come next. He’s So Unusual and Yeah Yeah keep the link to the debut's running order. Time After Time and Girls Just Want to Have Fun appear later, before What a Thrill.
The broadcast preserves this slice of the early 1980s. The program gathers tracks from the debut and one song outside its running order, before the following releases change the size of the catalog.
