“To see Queen's Brazilian debut turn the Morumbi into a choir before the second night at the stadium.”
Context
In March 1981, Queen's first visit to Brazil arrives at the Morumbi after the Argentine leg. The stadium hosts the first of two shows in São Paulo. The Game tour reaches a crowd size that puts the band's relationship with South America at the center of the trip.
We Will Rock You appears in its fast version at the opening. Play the Game, Save Me and Another One Bites the Dust represent the tour's album, while Flash and The Hero bring in the Flash Gordon soundtrack. Love of My Life gets a mass singalong that shifts part of the spotlight to the stands.
The performance goes out on television and radio, then circulates in copies with cuts and editing differences. In 2016, some songs are officially included in the On Air box set, with their own audio treatment. The video keeps another path of circulation: that of a night that multiplies into broadcasts, reruns and collectors' recordings.
