Context
Four years after his debut at the Swiss festival, Gilberto Gil returns to the Casino de Montreux on July 11, 1982. The previous visit had already yielded a live album. Now he arrives after Luar, while preparing Um Banda Um, recorded between June and July of that year.
Gil opens with Flora and moves through Respeita Januário before launching into Expresso 2222. The set gathers his own songs and songs by Luiz Gonzaga, Jorge Mautner and Dorival Caymmi. Keyboards, bass, drums and percussion surround his voice and acoustic guitar; Sarará Miolo and Banda Um take the center of the performance.
In the second half of the year, Um Banda Um gets a promotional tour in Brazil. The Swiss night sits between two albums, with Banda Um and Pula, Caminha already on stage. Preserved in picture and sound, the performance captures this transition without being confused with the Montreux live album released in 1978.
- Banda Um and Pula, Caminha appear on stage during the recording period of Um Banda Um.
