“To see João and Francisco share a full show with Gilberto Gil for the first time, at a Coala with no audience.”
Context
With no audience and surrounded by nature, Coala changes address and scale on September 12, 2020. The pandemic had halted plans for a European tour by the Gil family. At the close of the virtual edition, Gilberto meets Gilsons for a full show, with Bem Gil among the guests.
Palco opens the meeting, but Gil does not take the center alone. Love Love, Vento Alecrim and Cores e Nomes make room for the trio formed by José, João and Francisco. Guerrinha adds percussion, Bem swaps guitar for triangle on De Onde Vem o Baião, and Se Eu Quiser Falar com Deus pares the scene down to voice and acoustic guitar.
Before Feliz por um Triz, Gil remembers Pedro, the son who recorded the song's drums, now played by José. A Novidade closes the night with no encore. Broadcast by TNT and online, the gathering also leaves a recorded offshoot: Estrela appears on the collective EP Coala VRTL, released in 2021.
- Se Eu Quiser Falar com Deus focuses the performance on Gil's voice and acoustic guitar.
- Feliz por um Triz brings the memory of Pedro close to the drums played by José.
