Context
On the eve of turning 81, Gilberto Gil meets a João Rock celebrating two decades and setting aside its Palco Brasil stage for different generations of Brazilian music. On June 3, 2023, in Ribeirão Preto, he closes that stage's program after Tom Zé, Mutantes, Zé Ramalho and Alceu Valença.
Gil opens with Tempo Rei, A Novidade and Vamos Fugir. Bem and Nara are in the band; Mestrinho leads on accordion in the forró block. Estrela spotlights the singer's acoustic guitar. The set skips new material, but not identity: Aquele Abraço gets a dedication to Caymmi, João Gilberto and Caetano, before the close with Maracatu Atômico and Toda Menina Baiana.
Still in June, the schedule moves on to Qualistage in Rio with the family show Nós A Gente. The Ribeirão stop remains a festival recording, broadcast by Canal Bis, with no confirmed DVD or Blu-ray release of its own. The cut condenses a long career into a little over an hour.
- Mestrinho steps forward in the forró block, especially on Eu Só Quero um Xodó.
